Dutch animator Evert the Beijer (1953) last Sunday received the Cultural Prize of Wiesbaden because of his accomplishments in the field of animation. This cultural price is distributed annually by the city of Wiesbaden to a person, studio or training within the animation sector.
The ceremony took place within the framework of the international cartoon festival ‘ Weekend of Animation’ in Wiesbaden. ” The Beijer received the prize because of his excelling work as independent animator who has developed his own graphic style, which distinguishes him as an artist and scenario writer”; thus alderman Schlemp on behalf of the department of culture Wiesbaden. It is not the first time that the Beijer received an award, in the past he won several prestigious prizes. His last film ‘Get Real! ‘ (2010) was rewarded with 1st the prize on the cartoon festival ‘ Animatou’ in Geneva (Zw), ‘ Best Visuals’ award on the cartoon festival ‘ Fantoche’ and ‘ Special Mention’ on ‘ Berlinale’ (DU).
